May 30, 2007

Here Down Under, due to time zones, we get a blue moon in June 2007. A blue moon is the second full moon that occurs in a calendar month, and to my surprise, Google Calendar notes this.

Google is sexist

May 9, 2007

he_invented

It was surprising. As you may or may not know, Google suggests search terms based on popularity. In this case, when you search for “she invented”, Google’s algorithm notices that this is not the most popular search term and could be a spelling mistake. Hence it suggests the “correct” term.

Dear oh dear.

A few Google tricks and tips

May 9, 2007

Google is good for so many things, among which is searching for all sorts of files, including MP3′s and Windows Media Files. Here’s a quick primer:

gooster.jpgJust substitute the term “Nirvana” for any band or singer you might be looking for, and your search will lead you to open indexes that contain downloadable music files. Search through the results and click to download. And it’s free.

If you wish to search for 3GP files (the mobile phone video format), the string below will list directories that contain files relating to 3gp.

Of course, for the more adventurous you can substitute “3gp” with “mp3“, “avi” or even “passwords“. This then lists all directories with that name depending on the chosen name. Sifting through the files in those directories can reveal interesting files for you have time to dig through them.

Or, there is my personal favorite. This string will find programs for you to download. Just type in the following and substitute the “photoshop cs2″ with the program or brand name.

Sweet!
