Moving along to December 2009, Google tells me there is a blue moon then, too.
So there you go. If you know of any other interesting tidbits hidden in Google Calendar, let me know!
Ciao!

But New Zealand? Why are they the fifth most popular country to search for ‘Marijuana’? I mean, come on, there are only 4.1 million people there.

May 17, 2007
By country, it is interesting to see that Turkey leads the way in online search for “Satan”. Following is Slovakia, Croatia, Norway, Bolivia, Slovenia, Morocco, Czech Republic, Greece, and for some unknown reason, tucked away at the bottom is South Africa. Huh?
In the city stakes, the Turks score the top four spots searching for Satan. The top cities are Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Adana. Strange, yeah? Others making up the list are Bratislava, Olso, Athens, Helsinki, Los Angeles and bringing up the rear, Seattle. Hmm…all in the Northen Hemisphere. Click here for a Google Mash-Up of them.
Moving onto languages. Satan is searched for in Turkish, followed by Slovak, Croatian, Norwegian, Icelandic, Maltese, Czech, Slovenian, Greek and then, suprisingly, Sweden. So – there you go. The Turks love searching for Satan.

Google is sexist
May 9, 2007It was surprising. As you may or may not know, Google suggests search terms based on popularity. In this case, when you search for “she invented”, Google’s algorithm notices that this is not the most popular search term and could be a spelling mistake. Hence it suggests the “correct” term.
Dear oh dear.

A few Google tricks and tips
May 9, 2007Google is good for so many things, among which is searching for all sorts of files, including MP3′s and Windows Media Files. Here’s a quick primer:
Just substitute the term “Nirvana” for any band or singer you might be looking for, and your search will lead you to open indexes that contain downloadable music files. Search through the results and click to download. And it’s free.
If you wish to search for 3GP files (the mobile phone video format), the string below will list directories that contain files relating to 3gp.
Of course, for the more adventurous you can substitute “3gp” with “mp3“, “avi” or even “passwords“. This then lists all directories with that name depending on the chosen name. Sifting through the files in those directories can reveal interesting files for you have time to dig through them.
Or, there is my personal favorite. This string will find programs for you to download. Just type in the following and substitute the “photoshop cs2″ with the program or brand name.
Sweet!
