The Inaugural Worst Restaurant In Kensington Award 2007

Being a local, over the last year I have drank and dined in many restaurants and cafes located around Kensington, Victoria. There are some really good eateries that can whip you up a toasty foccacia, steaming hot freshly made noodles or even something a little more fanciful such as a or a gourmet pizza or a delicious Korean dish. In fact, there is so much choice for food in Kensington, there is quite a rivalry between the businesses to earn the loyalty of locals through increasing value for money, quality and service.

Which is why I have created “The Worst Restaurant in Kensington Award”.

This award “is to recognize the astonishingly poor service masquerading as hospitality achieved through the consistent failure to meet customers expectations, delivery of inferior product and the total disregard for quality“

Ladies and gentleman, the winner of The Worst Restaurant in Kensington Award for 2007 has certainly earned it over the year. I am pleased to announce it is:-
Amania Indian Cuisine. 522 Macaulay Rd, Kensington 3031.

Yet, ladies and gentleman, there is one restaurant in which over the last year has constantly failed to impress in service, quality, value for money and friendliness. This business treats paying customers with contempt, a deep sense of loathing and it has even managed to set a new standard for the word “condescending”. Myself and other locals have been disappointed numerous times from the varying inconsistency of dishes, the temperature of the meals and the value for money.

One local, who wishes to remain anonymous, has relayed that one evening he ended up paying $10 for Chicken Biryani only to find a container of rice with one small nugget of chicken in it.

Kensington – You’ve Done It Again!

Police are investigating claims that a driver, 35, of Kensington was driving aggressively and erratically on the wrong side of a Melbourne freeway – without his lights on and played “chicken” with head-on traffic.

Police said city-bound traffic was brought to a stand-still as motorists pulled over to avoid the driver on the Tullamarine Freeway in Airport West last night. (Sun 27th May, 2007).

Police scrambled to the area after motorists reported the man driving aggressively in the south-bound freeway lanes with no lights about 9.15pm (AEST). They found a white Toyota utility had come to a stop in the right-hand lanes on the south-bound on the freeway, south of the English Street overpass.

“It appears the motor of the vehicle had seized up, causing it to stop,” a police spokesperson said.

The driver, 35, of Kensington, refused a preliminary breath test and was taken to Moonee Ponds police station for questioning. He was then transferred to the Melbourne Custody Centre.

A police spokesman said the man would be charged by summons with drink-driving offences. Charges of conduct endangering persons were also pending.

Police are appealing to any motorists who witnessed the incident, especially anyone who saw where the driver entered the freeway, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

He will be charged on summons for drink driving offences and may face further charges.

Help Catch This Attempted Rapist In Kensington, Melbourne

“Neashi “said she was assaulted after getting off a train at Kensington railway station in Eastwood Street, in Melbourne’s inner-west around 6.30am on Tuesday (22nd May, 2007).

She described the man as about 40 years old with an olive complexion, large solid build, dark hair, bushy eyebrows and a greying moustache. Police have described him as aged about 40, obese, with a handle-bar moustache, olive complexion, of solid build, with dark hair and greying, bushy eyebrows.

She said a man approached her and asked her for change. When she tried to walk past him, he grabbed her by the neck. She then managed to knee him in the groin and get away.

“He said that he wanted to have sex with me but he did not want to rape me and that I should help him,” Neashi said.

Asked why she was speaking out about the assault, she replied: “For me it could have been far worse … if he’s caught then it won’t happen to anyone else.”

Neashi’s attacker is thought to have assaulted two women in Coburg within several hours on April 20.
